Comparative analysis of test-taker speech in intermediate and advanced-level tasks in a semi-direct speaking test

This study compared the utterances produced by test-takers for intermediate and advanced-level tasks of a semi-direct speaking test. Results showed more fluent and accurate utterances with fewer disfluency markers for intermediate tasks, while complexity remained similar across levels. Advanced tasks featured more past tense verbs and general “you,” indicating broader social contexts and role plays, such as giving advice or making complaints.
